We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Data Engineer to join our First Derivative Consulting Business. First Derivative provides a range of managed services and consulting worldwide to its clients in the capital markets sector, including many of the world’s leading banks, focused on supporting mission-critical systems as well as helping them to achieve and maintain regulatory compliance.
As Senior Data Engineer you will lead technology innovation for our clients through robust delivery of world-class solutions. The opportunities to make a difference within exciting client initiatives are unlimited in the ever-changing technology landscape.
You will be part of a highly collaborative and growing network of technology and data experts, who are taking on today’s biggest, most complex business challenges using the latest data and analytics technologies.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
- 4+ years of experience building data solutions.
- 2+ years’ experience building solutions in a Cloud environment, preferably on Google Cloud Platform, otherwise in AWS.
- Experience building production-ready analytics solutions.
- Knowledge of different data engineering ETL/ELT technologies, at least 2 from the list: Apache Spark, Airflow, Python Pandas, Google DataProc and Composer, AWS EMR or AWS Glue.
- Knowledge of at least one Streaming Technology from the list: Apache Kafka, AWS Kinesis, GCP Pub/Sub.
- Knowledge in Data Warehouse or Lake House technologies, at least one from list: Snowflake, Starburst, DataBricks, AWS Athena, AWS Glue, AWS Redshift, GCP BigQuery.
- Knowledge in serverless technologies: AWS Lambda and Step Functions, GCP Cloud Functions, Azure Functions.
- Strong programming experience in both Python and SQL, bonus points for Apache Spark or Apache Beam.
- Experience building scalable and highly-performant code.
- Experience in producing tested, resilient, and well documented applications, including good knowledge of DevOps concepts such as CI/CD, infrastructure as code, monitoring, and alerting
- Experience in building, maintaining, and troubleshooting cloud infrastructure in GC P
- Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal, and written communication skills; a team player and keen learner who loves building great things together.
- A team player, with proven background in solution ownership, building data engineering solutions.
- A role model with proven experience in past leadership role would be beneficial.

Nice to have:
- Experience building Google DataProc using Python, Apache Spark or similar technologies (Google Data Flow, AWS EMR or AWS Glue)
- Experience with Agile methodologies such as Scrum
- Airflow and Composer experience are not essential, if willing to learn it.
- Basic knowledge of and ideally some experience with data science topics like machine learning, data mining, statistics, and visualisation
Location:
This role can be based in Northern Ireland, Dublin or London and we operate a Hybrid working model.
